A fire at a Queensland hospital has resulted in the evacuation of a number of patients and the closure of the hospital’s emergency department. 7NEWS
An admin building at Gatton Hospital was discovered to be on fire just after 8.30am on Monday.Watch the latest news and stream for free on“Patients are being transported to other hospitals in the region and their families are being notified,” the spokesperson said.
“The fire is believed to have started in a room behind the administration area that houses an IT server.”“People experiencing an emergency are advised to present to their closest alternative hospital, such as Laidley, Boonah, Esk, Toowomba or Ipswich.”7NEWSThey were called to the scene at 8.55am, with reports of smoke coming from an admin building.“En route, they received a triple-0 call from staff on scene that there was smoke in one of the computer rooms.
“We had roughly six units responding from Toowoomba and also Brisbane backing up the local auxiliary crews.”Acting Inspector Rob Graves spoke from the scene of the Gatton Hospital fire.“They were all looked after with assistance from Queensland Ambulance Service,” Graves said.The fire was extinguished about 9.15am but crews remain on scene to monitor the situation.Queensland Police were also on scene.Three Queensland Ambulance Service crews responded to the fire, assessing a number of patients.
