So it’s no surprise the Rocket Man’s farewell tour is the picture of grand excess, lasting nearly five years, maybe longer if the mood strikes him.
John, 74, announced his farewell in 2018 and said goodbye to D-FW with two shows at American Airlines Center. But after the runaway success of the 2019 biopicJohn plays "Bennie and the Jets" at American Airlines Center during his last visit in 2018. Then COVID-19 hit, pushing the Dallas dates to Jan. 25 and 26. Last summer, he announced yet another D-FW show for 2022 — Sept. 30 at Globe Life Field — as part of a massive stadium tour that’s set to finally end in mid-2023.
But is that really it? Or will he change his mind like he did in 1977, when he announced his retirement from touring and then unretired less than two years later? If you go to one of this week’s shows, expect a marathon featuring all the classics and two or three deep cuts thrown in for good measure. Sir Elton may be bidding adieu, but he’s in no hurry to leave..
