Elon Musk is lending his expertise to help Boeing expedite the production of the new Air Force One, known as the VC-25B. The project has faced significant delays and cost overruns since its inception in 2015. President Biden aims to have the aircraft sooner, prompting collaboration with Musk to identify ways to accelerate the schedule. Boeing CEO, Kelly Ortberg, highlights constructive discussions with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which are focused on streamlining processes and eliminating inefficiencies.

Elon Musk is assisting Boeing in accelerating the production of the Next Air Force One, according to Boeing CEO, Kelly Ortberg, in an interview with CNBC. Also known as the VC-25B , the project has faced mounting costs and delays since Boeing was initially awarded the contract in 2015 to build a new presidential aircraft. The delivery date, originally projected for 2024, has been postponed to at least 2027. Boeing has reported losses exceeding $2 billion on the program.

Ortberg stated that President Biden desires the aircraft sooner, prompting collaboration with Musk and his team to explore ways to expedite the schedule. He characterized the discussions as productive and commended the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for their efforts in identifying inefficiencies and contractual bottlenecks hindering progress.\Boeing is constructing a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but the project's costs have spiraled out of control, surpassing $4 billion. During President Donald Trump's first term, he renegotiated the terms, threatening to cancel the program if costs exceeded $4 billion. To mitigate expenses, Boeing agreed in 2018 to utilize two jets originally intended for a bankrupt Russian airline. However, production has been plagued by challenges, including reported incidents of a Boeing employee lacking proper credentials to oversee the work and another failing a routine drug test. The Wall Street Journal also reported the discovery of mini bottles of tequila on board one of the future presidential jets. Notably, at his inaugural ball earlier this month, Trump hinted at his preference for the new presidential jet by cutting a cake decorated with the VC-25B, featuring a red, white, and blue design deviating from the light blue used for presidential jets since the Kennedy era. In 2019, Trump showed ABC a similar plane design, stating, 'I'm doing that for other presidents, not for me.' However, this color scheme was identified as a contributing factor to further delays. The Air Force conducted a thermal study revealing that the dark blue would necessitate additional tests due to increased heat in certain environments. Consequently, in 2023, President Joe Biden opted for a light-blue livery, aligning with the current and previous Air Force Ones. But it seems Trump may still favor his original design
