The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department expressed gratitude towards Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his help in the investigation of the Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel on New Year’s Day. LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill publicly thanked Musk for his assistance. The incident, which took place at 8:40 a.m. local time, resulted in one fatality and seven injuries.
McMahill acknowledged Musk’s contributions, stating that he provided valuable information about how the vehicle was locked after the explosion and shared video footage from Tesla charging stations across the country. The explosion, currently under investigation by the FBI, originated from the Cybertruck’s cargo bed, which contained gasoline canisters, fuel canisters, and fireworks. Musk, on X, echoed the sheriff’s remarks, stating that the Cybertruck contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards, preventing damage to the hotel lobby. LVMPD released video footage showing the severely damaged cargo bed, but the Cybertruck’s hull appeared largely intact
