Comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi's move to the Cotswolds has been met with mixed reactions. While they purchased a stunning farmhouse, local residents have raised concerns about a proposed home extension potentially increasing flood risk and disturbing nearby Roman remains.

The former talk show host, 67, and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to England in November 2024. They purchased a stunning farmhouse in the affluent Cotswolds area for $18 million, exceeding the asking price by $3 million. However, their move hasn't been without its challenges. Since settling in the UK, the couple faced backlash regarding their proposed home extension. Local residents voiced concerns that the addition could exacerbate flood risks in the village.

They argued that the hedge and wire fence planned for the property could trap debris, hindering the natural flow of water across the field. \The local parish council reportedly received numerous objections from these concerned villagers. The council documents highlighted the responsibility of the homeowner to report any historical remains discovered during construction. Three parish counselors expressed worries that the project might inadvertently disturb nearby Roman ruins. \Despite these apprehensions, a spokesperson for West Oxfordshire District Council assured that the Roman remains are situated over 200 yards away from DeGeneres' property. They emphasized that the construction work adhered to high standards. District counselor Rosie Pearson, who attended the meeting where the extension was discussed, confirmed that the council deemed the work not to be a material breach and posed no threat to any potential Roman remains. Pearson expressed full confidence in the planning officers' judgment, stating that she fully accepted their findings
