The pursuit of knowledge is most noble when used to benefit others.
It is why Elizabethtown College’s annualMake A Deposit, Make A Difference” campaign is so much more than a slogan. It introduces our incoming students to our motto before they even set foot in our classrooms. It sets the tone for the service-based mission that will guide their education for the next four plus years at Etown and showcases the power of a community dedicated to confidently serving the world.
In the annual campaign, the college matches deposits made by first-year students who will enroll as members of the Class of 2027 between a certain timeframe. This year, the campaign runs from Jan. 11 through March 18, and the College has set a goal of raising $15,000 and will donate its proceeds to a local non-profit organization.
This year’s recipient of the Make A Deposit, Make A Difference proceeds is Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services . KPETS is a volunteer team that aims to promote well-being by sharing the power of human-animal interactions in south-central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. It’s an organization that is close to the Etown community, as they often bring therapy pets to our campus, particularly around the busy final exam weeks, to provide therapy and stress relief for our students.
The effort aligns with the College’s motto Educate for Service, which was adopted in 1915. Educate for Service expresses the campus community’s belief that the pursuit of knowledge is most noble when used to benefit others.Betty Rider is president of Elizabethtown College.
