Elgin’s leaf collection program for people living within the city’s four designated areas is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 30, and continue through Thursday, Dec. 7. The only exception is the week of Thanksgiving, when leaves normally collected Thursday will be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 25, a city news release said. Resident input will be taken into consideration as the city prepares to seek contract bids to for waste hauler services, according to a news release. The city’s current contract with Waste Management expires at the end of 2024. For more information, call 847-931-5609. Pumpkins and gourds collected at the city's annual Pumpkin Smash Nov. 4 will be disposed of at a local composting facility, officials said.
