A lecture on the history of the 100-year-old Laura Davidson Sears Art Gallery at Elgin Academy will be presented May 28 by Ann Chipman at the Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin. The Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is holding several programs in May in recognition of Historic Preservation Month. They include:Local historian Jerry Turnquist will host the trivia game from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Meadows Community Rooms at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

The event is planned as part of National Public Works Week, which is from May 19 to 25. For more information, call 311 or go toThe Elgin Heritage Commission will mark Historic Preservation Month with a free tour of churches in the Holy Hill area from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Among the musical selections will be “How Great Thou Art,” “Over the Rainbow,” “What a Wonderful World” and a full medley of songs from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” according to a news release.
