A pet owner in Wheat Ridge, Colorado , faced serious consequences after a disturbing discovery at a local hotel. On February 1st, the Wheat Ridge Police Department responded to a welfare check at a La Quinta Inn. Upon arrival, community services officers encountered four kennels containing a total of 11 puppies. The officers were immediately met with an overwhelming stench of feces emanating from both the room and the kennels.
The room was reportedly littered with fecal matter, smeared inside the kennels and even found on the puppies' paws. Adding to the severity of the situation, one of the puppies was discovered with an open, bleeding wound on its paw.Concerned for the well-being of the animals, the officers swiftly removed the puppies from the room and transported them to Foothills Animal Shelter. Days later, a chilling revelation emerged. The shelter confirmed that the puppies were unvaccinated and had contracted canine parvovirus, a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease. This alarming discovery further underscored the neglect and irresponsible care the puppies had endured.In response to this egregious case of animal cruelty, the Wheat Ridge Police Department took swift action. The owner of the puppies was issued a municipal summons for 11 counts of animal cruelty or inhumane treatment. The department emphasized the fundamental responsibility of pet owners to provide adequate care for their animals, particularly in situations where they are unable to care for themselves.
