There are different ways to show or simply notice that the US electric vehicle market is growing fast. Rapid EV sales growth, counting the EVs we see on the street as we drive to work or the store, how full EV charging stations are. Going further, Electrify America has shared some charging stats from 2023 that demonstrate rapid EV uptake — or, at least, rapid growth of EV charging on its network, but that really does imply the former as well.
The number of charging sessions on Electrify America’s network grew by 106% in 2023 compared to 2022, and the number of gigawatt-hours dispensed through those charging sessions grew by 118%! The charging sessions went from 5.3 million in 2022 to 10.9 million in 2023. The number of GWh dispenses went from 175 GWh in 122 to 380+ GWh in 2023.miles of electric travel in 2023. And that meant more than 52 million gallons of gasoline not being used.
The network now has 900+ charging stations, 4,000+ individual fast chargers, and stations in 47 US states and 6 Canadian provinces . Electrify America plans to reach at least 5,000 individual charging ports in 2024.Of course, part of the growth in Electrify America charging comes from the company expanding the network, but it hasn’t expanded nearly as much as actual charging sessions and GWh deployed have expanded.
