COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio polls have closed on Tuesday evening and election officials are tallying votes, including for members of the Ohio General Assembly.
However, there are a handful of competitive races in districts where party identification among voters is nearly split. Those seats are in the suburbs. Democrats realistically can pick up at least two seats of the swing districts. The current two-year legislative session will end in late December and those who were elected Tuesday night will be sworn in for a new two-year session in early January.
: State Sen. Tom Patton, a Strongsville Republican and longtime sitting legislator, was ahead of Sue Durichko, a Democratic member of Parma Heights City Council at 11:30 p.m. Patton had 53% of the vote to Durichko’s 47%, with 126,351 votes counted. Patton now lives in Senate District 24, after the district was redrawn in 2023. The district spans southwestern and some of central Cuyahoga County, including Parma, North Olmsted, Strongsville and North Royalton.
