Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he met Monday morning with former president Donald Trump to discuss “national unity.” Kennedy and Trump were in Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention was underway two days after the apparent attempted assassination of Trump. “Lots of rumors going around about my meeting this morning with President Trump,” Kennedy said on X afterward.
” Kennedy appeared to be responding to a Politico report that Trump met with Kennedy to ask for his endorsement. The Kennedy campaign did not respond to a request for comment. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. News of the meeting came as Trump announced his vice-presidential pick, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio. Earlier Monday, Trump called for Kennedy to receive Secret Service protection, something that the independent contender has long sought.
