Challenger Robert Luna votes show a growing gap over Alex Villanueva as more results were released Thursday afternoon.
In the race for Los Angeles County Sheriff, retired Long Beach police Chief Robert Luna broadened his lead over Sheriff Alex Villanueva, according to additional vote tallies conducted late Thursday.
If it passes, the elected Board of Supervisors could initiate what some call “an impeachment” of the sheriff by presenting violations, including law-breaking or blocking the investigation of his own department, that the sheriff would then respond to. Removing a sheriff would take four votes of the five-member board.
leaving some political analysts to suggest that the sheriff will not be able to overtake his challenger.
