A spokeswoman for the state Department of Health said following the announcement of the charges against Bermontiz that she would not comment on specific instances of resident-on-resident abuse. In an interview earlier in the week with NJ Advance Media by a family member, Nicole Kupko said she was told her great aunt had been alone, making her way down the hallway with the aid of a walker in the nursing home’s memory care unit when she was allegedly knocked to the floor by Bermontiz who had been standing in his bedroom doorway. Kupko said he then allegedly beat her face and head.
