A 65-year-old man, identified as Thomas Oliver Hight, was arrested in Morro Bay , California, on Sunday after allegedly stealing a Ford F-250 truck from a dealership in San Luis Obispo. The incident unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. when Morro Bay police received a stolen vehicle alert from the city's automated license plate reader system. Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle, a 2024 Ford F-250, in the 700 block of Harbor Street.

Notably, the truck bed was carrying a 2025 Harley Davidson motorcycle.According to investigators, Hight had purchased the F-250 from Perry Ford in San Luis Obispo but failed to provide sufficient funds for the payment. The dealership attempted to recover the truck from Hight, ultimately reporting it as stolen. Hight returned to Perry Ford seeking to purchase another vehicle but was confronted by staff who demanded payment for the F-250 or its surrender.Hight refused and subsequently fled the dealership with the truck, damaging landscaping in the process as a Perry Ford employee attempted to prevent his escape. Morro Bay police apprehended Hight and booked him into San Luis Obispo County Jail on a vehicle theft charge. He remains in custody with a bail set at $70,000. Morro Bay police have notified their counterparts in San Luis Obispo and Fresno, alerting them to Hight's arrest and existing cases involving the Ford dealership and a Harley dealership. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
