David Mundee ELBA – Elba senior standout and Auburn commitment Alvin Henderson admits he doesn’t realize the type of big numbers he puts up during a game until Saturday morning.Henderson, who is making a serious charge to become the state’s all-time leader in career rushing yards, added another legendary performance Friday night, unofficially earning 352 yards on 26 carries with four touchdowns.
“When I see my stats on Saturday morning or late Friday night, I will be amazed because when I am doing it, I am just out here having fun,” Henderson said of his string of 300-yard performances. “When I see it on paper, I am like, ‘I really did that last night?'Elba head coach Marc Sieving said it was a typical Henderson showing, but stressed it was a good performance by the entire Tiger squad.
Goshen dropped to 3-2 overall on a night when the Eagles turned the ball over three times and had 17 penalties for 112 yards. They also had several penalties declined and one that was negated by an Elba penalty. The Tigers also had penalties issues with 11 for 120 yards. “It looked like one of our guys had a big hit on him and that ball popped out and we ended up getting on it,” Sieving said. “That was huge. We preach turnovers and those are difference-makers in games. It was big tonight.”
The scoring drive was sparked by two McNabb completions, one of 19 yards to Szemerick Andrews, plus runs of 20 and 15 yards by McNabb.
