GEORGE TOWN: A total of 8 individuals were slapped with RM1,000 compound each for breaching the recovery movement control order (MCO)

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the individuals were fined during an Ops on recovery MCO compliance in the district.

"These individuals were fined for not observing social distancing while patronising public places," he said in a statement on Saturday .ACP Soffian said among the offences that were committed by the premise operator were not recording the details of their customers, not checking the body temperature and not providing hand sanitisers at their premises.

He said the operation was conducted at five areas in the district with the strength of 109 personnel comprising police officers, RELA and Penang Island City Council personnel.He said a total of 129 premises were checked during the operation that ended at 2pm.
