Tropical Depression Egay is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm by tomorrow, the state weather bureau said late Friday evening.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Egay has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 70 kph.“‘Yong tinatayang movement ng sentro ng bagyo sa ngayon ay hindi inaasahang tatama sa landmass ng bansa,” Senior weather specialist Chris Perez said in a press briefing on Friday.

PAGASA said Egay has no direct effect in the country but heavy rainfall is possible in Catanduanes Northern Samar from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon. [Translation: We are not ruling out the possibility that it could hit some parts of our country, particularly here in the northeastern part of Luzon.]

Egay may also bring moderate to rough seas over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, according to PAGASA.
