The GOP's first instance of governing, even before trying to pick a House speaker? They removed a 'hunk of garbage outside of the House chambers.'
The metal detector outside the House Chamber is moved off to the side on Capitol Hill in Washington on Tuesday, three days before the capitol insurrection anniversary. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., at right, celebrated it.Three days before the second anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at our nation’s Capitol, Republican lawmakers removed metal detectors that were installed outside the House chamber a week after the riot.
Obviously, it is Congress’ prerogative to keep or dump metal detectors. But substantively what we see is a body that appears incapable of governing. A body that finds walking through a metal detector to be a nuisance, but then speaks of hardening schools because it is incapable of passing commonsense gun safety measures.
