It is now a matter of conjecture about whether the country would have experienced violence were it not for the presence of security personnel on our streets.

According to Gareth Newham of the Institute for Security Studies, 86% of South Africa’s murder cases and 90% of robberies went unsolved last year. In his research, Newham also found that detection rates have declined every year since 2012. The mere presence of the shepherd puts the sheep at peace. When he is near, they don’t panic and they don’t fight. They can lie down in peaceful slumber.
