Editorial | The ANC’s myopic sabotage: The most nauseating manifestation of this was the mobilising of its allies to torpedo a R2bn loan. The irony is that the ANC itself initiated the loan during its time in office and even got unanimous council approval

Workers who had been beneficiaries of what was essentially a corrupt patronage-dispensing programme known as Jozi@Work were manipulated into believing they were being fired, when in fact the scheme was being reformed to make it more dignified and less exploitative. They took to the streets in violent protest.

When power fell back into a DA-led coalition in November last year, the ANC spent its energy doing its utmost to prevent a coalition from governing. It succeeded last month, when the DA’s self-wrecking again gave the ANC a way back in. This did not last, though. Within weeks, the black, green and gold party found itself back in the opposition.
