In saner times, Mr. DeWine would be doing exactly the right thing. Yet we do not live in those times. Mr. Biden’s helpers took the unprecedented step of throwing former President Donald Trump off the primary ballot in several jurisdictions, including Colorado, through the use of specious legal arguments related to the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause.
As a political matter, Mr. Biden doesn’t stand much of a chance in Ohio, where Mr. Trump’s margin of victory was 8 points four years ago. The latest RealClearPolitics polling average shows Mr. Trump’s advantage is now a rock-solid 10 points. Even Democratic pollsters can’t muster enough people willing to say they want Mr. Biden in the White House for a second term.
