From the Editorial Board: If Illinois redesigns its state flag, what best captures the 'state' of Illinois?
Quick. Can you describe what’s on Illinois’ state flag? No worries if you can’t.
All a bit busy, if you ask us. Maybe that’s why there’s been a movement in Springfield to look into conjuring up a new flag.The effort to change the state flag recently took an important step, with Gov. J.B. Pritzker signing a bill that sets up a commission to look into a design for a new flag. If all goes well, a new flag design could be brought before the General Assembly by December 2024.
Here are some helpful suggestions from political cartoonist and amateur vexillologist Scott Stantis, inspired by things that put the “ill” in Illinois:

Pritzker has signed a law banning firearms advertising that officials determine produces a public safety threat or appeals to children, militants or others who might later use the weapons illegally — opening the door for lawsuits against firearms manufacturers or distributors. Pritzker on Saturday signed the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act, making Illinois the eighth state to approve legislation that rolls back legal protections for firearms manufacturers or distributors. Pritzker signed the bill alongside lawmakers and gun control advocates at Gun Sense University, an annual training conference of more than 2,000 Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers and survivors, hosted by Everytown for Gun Safety.
