Mayor Johnson is failing Communication 101 in his Brighton Park migrant-tent plan and raising odd questions about his proposed police union deal.

Two recent moves by Mayor Brandon Johnson offer more worrisome evidence of how steep the learning curve is for this administration. First, the Johnson administration apparently failed to consult or even provide notice to Ald. Julia Ramirez, 12th, about plans to place a large migrant camp in Brighton Park. That’s according to the alderman herself. As we write, Johnson’s folks have yet to comment on those assertions despite being asked for an explanation. .

There are pros and cons to that, but one of the pros — at least theoretically — is that aldermen representing such bite-sized areas are attuned to the needs and desires of their wards in ways a mayor can’t possibly be. Failing to consult an alderman — any alderman — on a matter like this is politically undesirable, to say the least. There’s more.
