The scathing document comes 30 years after scientists first raised the alarm about rising global temperatures and warned governments that the current trajectory of fossil fuel consumption would lead to a climate crisis. Little to nothing has been done, despite the lip service of endless high-level talk shops, emissions agreements, back slapping and handshakes.

While much of the world still grapples with racial inequality, rising poverty, violence and any number of crippling socioeconomic crises, it is time to realise that humanity is at a crossroads. Either we elect to care for each other on the path of equality and unity in pursuit of a common humanity, or we choose the path of inevitable destruction and, ultimately, extinction.It will take a concerted individual and collective effort. We must shun plastic; reject fossil fuels and choose green energy; save our forests; and demand changes to the entire food production chain.
