The latest attempt to make voting difficult again comes from Republican Sen. Bob Hall of Edgewood, who hopes to end countywide voting centers on Election Day.

Hall, without any proof, claims that it’s impossible to ensure an accurate vote count when voting locations are spread across a precinct. He has said that having residents vote in a single location would make it easier. It certainly would make it harder for people to vote on Election Day.

Countywide voting has its roots in rural counties, but is popular among all voters, irrespective of region, party, or ethnicity because of its convenience in allowing people to vote anywhere in the county in which they reside. In November of 2022, some 70 percent of Texas voters did so at countywide locations.

As has been stated frequently by the secretary of state’s office and confirmed by the failed sleuthing attempts of indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton, there is no evidence of systematic voter fraud in Texas.
