In September, Edgewood Independent School District trustees extended their superintendent’s employment contract and gave him a raise, putting his annual earnings at $291,923. But a review of Eduardo Hernández’s contract shows that he could make up to $335,193.56 — a difference of nearly $43,300. When the board discussed his employment agreement on Sept. 17, trustees didn't mention the possibility that he could earn performance bonuses on top of his base pay.

The district posted Hernández’s contract on its website Thursday, the same day the San Antonio Express-News obtained the document through an open records request. His contract went into effect on Oct. 16 and runs through June 30, 2029.
