'We hear great support for Eden from residents. The only concerns are about transport'

New railway stations and regular electric trains are needed for Morecambe Bay attractions like the Eden Project, Morecambe Football Club, say Lancaster city councillors .

It recommended the city council to adopt these as as preferred options and to lobby organisations 'at every opportunity' for a solution to benefit all. She added: "I used to live in Bare and had easy access to the local railway station and trains to Lancaster. I hardly ever used my car. Trains were very reliable. They were full in mornings and evenings for school and work, and busy at other times too. However, Heysham has 16,000 people but the only public transport option is the bus. A new station would enhance residents' lives and train profitability.

"We were shown around there on a visit. The council owns some land. There are some tanks underground. That site could be perfect for a new station with car parking. Battery powered trains are the answer using charging points. A seven minute charge is enough for a train to travel 60 miles. There are electric-powered trains in Liverpool.
