Southgate’s current contract is due to expire in December 2024, meaning his last tournament in charge could be the European Championship next summer.
However, Howe is said to consider the England job to be ‘too soon’ in his managerial career and would ‘swiftly rule himself out of the running’ if approached by the FA.
