THE waste and pollution watchdog EcoWaste Coalition has bewailed the littering at pilgrimage sites during Holy Week.
The group said some pilgrims ignored the reminder not to leave any garbage behind after visiting the sites.On the eve of Palm Sunday, the EcoWaste Coalition appealed to the Catholic faithful to avoid indiscriminate use and disposal of single-use plastics at pilgrimage sites.The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, through its president, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, supported the group's call for a litter-free pilgrimage.
Some visitors recklessly tossed their discards on the ground, creating minidumps on the hilly terrain featuring the 14 Stations of the Cross.
