) - The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce held its annual career and job fair this morning at the Daphne Civic Center, drawing hundreds of people looking for employment opportunities. The event comes as Baldwin County continues to experience significant population growth, creating demand for workers.
“Baldwin County specifically is the sixth fastest growing county in the nation. If that doesn’t say something, then I don’t know,” said Christopher Lugo, director of workforce development. “We have people coming in in droves, and it shows how great the eastern shore is to live, work, and play.” The fair attracted both longtime residents and newcomers to the area, including Jonathan Vana, who moved to Alabama from Wisconsin seven months ago. “I moved here about seven months ago. So, I’m just looking for more jobs and more opportunities,” Vana said. “Police department, fire department, hotels, and stuff like that.”“We have these jobs here for people. They just have to work,” Lugo said. “That’s our main job with the Eastern Shore Chamber: trying to make sure that one, our members are well hooked up with jobs, and they don’t have to look for people. People are here. We have them coming in.”Jury finds defendants in Mobile’s backpack drug trial guilty on all but one count
