Communities affected by heavy rainfall in the Eastern Cape are appealing for government help.

KARIEGA - 10 people have now been reported to have died, while hundreds of others have been displaced by heavy rains in the Eastern Cape.

The provincial government has activated its disaster management teams to provide support to communities affected.The province has been experiencing disruptive weather for the past few days, resulting in localised flooding.WATCH | 1 dead, others evacuated after floods in NMBCommunity leader Haylee Gee said,"At the moment the community halls are overcrowded and we have about 400 people in each hall.

"These halls have been overcrowded and nothing has been given to these people except the mats and blankets from the Gift of the Givers." "At the moment I don't know the way forward because we have overcrowding and people are sitting without electricity since the first floods." "Things are not falling into place right now and government needs to come up with the plan of action to accommodate these people because we have even have mothers with newborn babies and we are sitting with no electricity to assist anybody here."
