EastEnders icon June Brown was actually advised to continue smoking by doctors, according to her co-star John Altman.
John, who played nasty Nick Cotton,that June, who portrayed chain-smoking Dot on the show, was still smoking ten cigarettes a day.
June, who had smoked for around 70 years, had tried to quit in 2019, but she was later advised against it. ‘She is still smoking, unfortunately, but the doctors have told her not to stop now,’ John said at the time.June left EastEnders in 2020, making her final appearance in January of that very year, after Dot came to believe that Martin Fowler had stolen money from her.It was confirmed earlier today that Juneon Sunday night at the age of 95 with her family by her side, with an EastEnders spokesperson paying tribute to the iconic actress.
A statement read today: ‘We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE, sadly passed away last night. ‘There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.
