The East Leopards found a way to come out on top over the Alta Hawks on the road.
SANDY — Alta and East battled it out down to the wire in the first region matchup Friday night in Sandy, but it was East that got the upper hand against an undefeated Alta team.
As the game clock slowly ticked down in a 7-7 game, fans in the stands prepared for overtime. But they were soon out of their seats when the Leopards were able to drive down the field and get into field goal position. The game opened up with flags thrown left and right through the duration of the first quarter, which caused a slow start. But late in the clock, the Leopards were able to gain some ground to give the team a first down on the Hawks' 12-yard line going into the second quarter, and then senior Michael Nunu Fonua found the end zone on a 6-yard run to give East a 7-0 lead.
