Nick Sirianni believes he made the right decision.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni during the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Falcons, Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, in Philadelphia. The Eagles defense gave up a late touchdown and the Falcons won, 22-21., Sirianni could have kept the offense on the field to convert a fourth-and-3 from Atlanta’s 10 with one minute, 39 seconds remaining in the game. If the Eagles picked up the three yards, they would have taken a knee and ran out the clock.Instead, Sirianni opted to kick the field goal.
“I put myself in that situation prior to the call, so I felt like in the moment my conviction was I knew exactly what I wanted . Again, is the outcome always what you want? No. But your conviction in a call . I was completely convicted that kicking a field goal there was the right decision based off all my studies.”
Sirianni’s rationale for kicking a field goal was not illogical. He gathered information on what other teams have done in that situation, analyzed the results and decided it was better to take the points.Sirianni believed the Eagles’ struggling defense could make a stop. He should have trusted their offense to make a play to win the game.
