Here are the latest Eagles injury updates from practice on Wednesday as they prepare to host the 49ers on Sunday in the wild-card round.Nick Sirianni spoke to the media on Monday ahead of the Eagles Wild Card round matchup with the 49ers and was asked about the value of Jalen Hurts’ playoff experience.
Some good news as the Eagles got back on the practice field to prepare for the 49ers on Sunday: Both Lane Johnson and Nakobe Dean were participating. If the Eagles get both of them back for the wild-card round, it would be a huge boost going into the playoffs and the Eagles would likely have 21 of 22 starters available.“Obviously, Lane is a big difference-maker,” head coach Nick Sirianni said on Wednesday morning. “I know he’s working like crazy to get himself back. We’ll see where that is this week. But he’s a difference-maker. He’s one of the best that’s ever done it.”Johnson, 35, hasn’t played since suffering a Lisfranc sprain in his foot against the Lions on Nov. 16. He missed the final seven games of the regular season but the future Hall of Famer has been eyeing a return by the playoffs. Johnson made an appearance at Friday’s practice but did not participate. It’s obvious that it would be a big boost for the Eagles’ offense to get Johnson back against the 49ers. “Yeah, Lane's the best right tackle in the game, so if we get him back, it's tremendous,” offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo said. “He'll add so much to everything. Just even his leadership, his play-style ability, run-pass, doesn't matter. It'll be a tremendous lift for the whole entire offense and I think you'll feel the energy if he's out there.”While the Eagles got a solid level of play from his backup Fred Johnson over the last month and a half, it would really help to get the starter back in the lineup. The Eagles in the regular season were 8-2 with Johnson at right tackle and were 3-4 without him. And since the start of the 2016 season, here’s a look at the Eagles’ record with and without Johnson:It would also be a big boost for the Eagles’ defense to get Dean back. The Eagles’ starting middle linebacker suffered a hamstring injury against the Commanders in Week 16 and missed the final two weeks of the season.Dean, 25, began the season on the PUP list after tearing his patellar tendon against the Packers in the wild-card round last season. He returned to the field in Week 6 and returned to the defense in Week 7. Since returning to the lineup, Dean had 55 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 7 TFLs and 6 QB hits. In addition to Johnson and Dean, the Eagles also saw Marcus Epps return to practice, along with Jalen Carter , Dallas Goedert and Jaelan Phillips . The two notable players missing on Wednesday were OL Brett Toth and Grant Calcaterra . But there’s looking like the Eagles will have 21 of 22 starters on Sunday against the 49ers. The only regular starter on IR is safety Andrew Mukuba, who suffered a fractured ankle in Dallas in late November. The 49ers, meanwhile, are still a bit banged up heading into this wild-card round. A few key players were not participating in practice to start the week out there:The two names on that list to watch closely this week are Trent Williams and Ricky Pearsall . They both missed the 49ers’ Week 18 game and are in danger of missing the first playoff game.
