Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman reflects on the team's disappointing 2025 season, vowing to improve and build a new championship-caliber team through strategic roster changes and player development.

Philadelphia Eagles general manger Howie Roseman and Eagles security man Big Dom DiSandro before the opening kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles , Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Philadelphia. Each Super Bowl team was built differently: The 2017 Eagles were driven by their offense, the 2022 team had even more offensive talent, and the 2024 group was led by an elite run game and a young, ascending defense.

, who constructed each championship team, is aiming to get the Eagles back to the Super Bowl next year after a disappointing 2025 campaign ended last week with a first-round playoff exit. “Not good enough‚” Roseman said about his performance this season. “If it doesn’t end with confetti falling on our heads, I don’t feel like it’s good enough. I know that we’re not going to win the Super Bowl every year. I think I know that from a broad perspective, but I believe we can. I go into every offseason thinking we’re going to do whatever it takes to win a Super Bowl, and when we fall short, I look at myself, I look at the things that I could have done differently, and I look to improve. That’s where I’m at right now.” Once again, Roseman will have to build the Eagles differently over the next few years, this time paying their young defensive players and letting go of key offensive pieces to get younger and cheaper on that side of the ball. “Well, as you get better, you have a natural arc of the team,” Roseman said during Thursday’s end-of-the-year presser. “I think that when you look at our team, we drafted a lot of offensive players, we re-signed a lot of offensive players, we drafted a lot of defensive players that were young on rookie contracts. There’s a natural transition in what we do. I’m not making an excuse or anything, but there’s a natural transition in terms of what you’re paying your guys, which side of the ball you’re paying guys who are coming up. The important thing for us is that there are players that we can’t lose. I mean obviously, we are going to do what’s best for us ... within reason, and we want to keep around here because they’re really good players, homegrown players that are really good people that are part of our core. With that, you’re going to have to make sacrifices..”and replace him with a rookie, and he could draft several offensive linemen, giving the Eagles flexibility to move on from Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens down the road. Most of the Eagles’ top players are on defense. To extend cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, among others, Roseman will have to trim the spending on offense. “That’s on me to make sure that the sacrifices we make are filled in with really good players again,” Roseman said. “I’m proud, since coach has been here, of our first- and second-day draft success. I think we’ve drafted 15 guys since Nick has been here in the first and second day, and 14 of them have been long-term starters. We’ve got to keep hitting like that. ...”Cayden Steele covers the Philadelphia Eagles and sports commerce for NJ Advance Media. He joined NJ.com in 2023 after graduating from Temple University.
