The Philadelphia Eagles have fired offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni following their disappointing season and playoff exit. This marks another change in play callers for quarterback Jalen Hurts, highlighting the team's struggles to find offensive consistency.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will have another new play caller in his ear next season after the team fired offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni Tuesday. It’s the story of his life, but one Hurts and everyone else knew was coming after the Eagles’ disappointing season ended Sunday in the first round of the NFC playoffs.
It became official Tuesday afternoon when the Eagles released a statement from coach Nick Sirianni that “I have decided to make a change at offensive coordinator,” Sirianni said in the statement. “I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision as he is a great coach who has my utmost respect. He has been integral to this team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product but behind the scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization. I have no doubt he will continue to have a successful coaching career. Ultimately, when we fall short of our goals that responsibility lies on my shoulders.”reported that it’s possible Patullo could stick around in another role with the Eagles, possibly returning to the job of passing game coordinator.as the offensive coordinator this season. Moore left to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints after helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl in his only season with the team. Patullo had also spent three seasons working under Sirianni when the latter was the offensive coordinator with the Colts. This season, however, was Patullo’s first chance to be an offensive coordinator and play caller at any level of football. Patullo, 44, tried early on to pattern the Eagles’ offense after the successful formula from a season ago when the team relied heavily on the running game with Saquon Barkley and one of the league’s best offensive lines. When the results weren’t the same, the Eagles were left without an offensive identity and struggled to find consistency the entire season. That was the case right up until the end when the Eagles put up just six points and fell to the depleted San Francisco 49ers, 23-19, in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles slipped from seventh to 19th in points and from eighth to 24th in total yards this season under Patullo. Those were by far the worst numbers for the offense during Sirianni’s five seasons as the team’s head coach. The Eagles also slipped from second in rushing yards last season to 18th this season. Their previous low was eighth in 2023.. The new offensive coordinator will be his seventh different play caller since he was drafted by the Eagles in 2020. He has also had five different position coaches. Take it back to his college days at Alabama and Oklahoma and he has had 10 different play callers and nine different quarterback coaches with the 11th one soon to be named., the Eagles did include some of the positive developments in Patullo’s one season as the offensive coordinator, noting, among other things, that the team had a league-leading TD success rate of 70.5% in the red zone and that the Eagles were just the fifth team in NFL history to have two 1,000-yard receivers and a tight end with 10 or more touchdown receptions .Bob Brookover has been the Eagles beat reporter at NJ Advance Media since November of 2023. He joined the organization as a Giants beat writer in September 2022 after a 40-year career covering Philadelphia...
