Temple defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot is leaving the program after one year to become the Philadelphia Eagles’ new linebackers coach.
Eliot is replacing former Eagles linebackers coach Nick Rallis, who left Philadelphia to become Jonathan Gannon’s defensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals. In his lone season at Temple, Eliot led the Owls to the second-best total passing defense in the American Athletic Conference at 198.6 passing yards per game. Temple also led the AAC in sacks with 38, three more than second-place Cincinnati, which played an extra game given its AAC Championship appearance.
Eliot’s Owls also had two players finish in the top four in the AAC in tackles for loss and sacks in all-conference edge rushers Layton Jordan and Darian Varner. Prior to coaching Temple, Eliot was the defensive coordinator at Kansas, Colorado, and Kentucky.As for Temple, the move makes it the fourth change to its coaching staff this offseason.
