DWP sanctions lead to lower earnings even when in work
PEOPLE who have had their Universal Credit sanctioned are more likely to go into a job earning less money than those who have not been sanctioned.There are almost two million people in the UK on Universal Credit.
It concluded in “a narrow sense” this is a “negative impact” but then said it “incentivises compliance” and encourages work and earnings increase. The recognition that people are being financially disadvantaged by sanctions even after they find a job was criticised by a Glasgow MP.
