The DWP is moving people from legacy benefits to Universal Credit in stages
Plans to change or halt 440,000 claims by September are underway at the Department for Work and Pensions . This is part of a strategy to switch those receiving older benefits - like Tax Credits, Jobseekers Allowance, and Income Support - to Universal Credit.
There were 5.3 million people claiming Universal Credit in the UK around November 2023, compared to roughly 1.6 million legacy benefit claimants. The DWP are gradually migrating claimants, sending 500,000 "migration notices" to households claiming only Tax Credits during the 2023/24 financial year.A recent update has shed light on the upcoming process.
When it's your turn to switch to Universal Credit, the DWP will send you a notice in the post. If you get this notice, you have three months to apply for Universal Credit. If you don't, your benefits will stop.
