The Department for Work and Pensions is to hire 3,400 new staff to form a 'benefits police force'
The Department for Work and Pensions is set to recruit 3,400 staff members to form a 'benefits police force' that will utilise Artificial Intelligence to scrutinise Universal Credit claimant bank accounts.
Additionally, 1,400 'counter fraud professionals' will be hired to conduct 'enhanced checks' on benefit claimants, employing 'new technologies' such as AI to identify fraudulent activity. The DWP has already expanded its workforce by 3,000 to combat Universal Credit fraud, with plans to further increase this number.
The Department for Work and Pensions has outlined its commitment to embracing new technologies, including advanced analytics and machine learning, to combat fraud within the Welfare System. The DWP stated: "DWP will continue to explore the opportunities offered by new technologies, new data sources and advanced analytical techniques to support the reduction and prevention of fraud within the Welfare System.
