The PIP award type may be standard or enhanced rate for the daily living component, standard or enhanced rate for the mobility component, or both
A staggering 250,000 individuals lodged applications for Personal Independence Payment from January to April 2024, the Department for Work and Pensions has revealed. This equates to an average of over 80,000 new claims each month for the benefit.
Concerns are also being raised about potential changes to the Motability scheme, with updates on DWP PIP reforms stirring fears that the scheme could be 'eradicated', reports Birmingham Live.
Each case is assessed individually, considering the claimant's specific needs and the possibility of changes in their condition. Factors such as upcoming treatments or therapies, or adapting to manage a condition, are taken into account. The PIP handbook states: "Most claimants will have their award regularly reviewed, regardless of the length of the award. This will make sure everyone continues to receive the most appropriate level of support. Some claimants will be given a limited-term award for a fixed period of up to two years. Their award will not be reviewed. Limited awards with no review date are given where the claimant's health condition may be reasonably expected to improve.
Some applicants are only awarded one component, while others get both. This means that amounts paid out range from £290.60 to £737.20 every four weeks.
