The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued new guidance to help people recognise whether a call they receive from them is genuine or a scammer trying to trick them
The Department for Work and Pensions has issued new guidance for people with an online Universal Credit account. The advice is designed to help claimants distinguish between genuine calls from the DWP and potential scammers trying to obtain personal or financial information.
However, to ensure that it is indeed the DWP calling and not a scammer, they will "ensure that you know the call is genuine". In the updated 'Universal Credit and You' section on GOV. UK, the DWP warns: "There are scams preying on people, so do not share information if you're not sure the call is from DWP. If you are in any doubt, ask the caller to post a specific form of words into your journal so you can be sure it's us.
From April 8, DWP benefits, including Universal Credit, will increase by 6.7 per cent. However, claimants may not see the full increase until May because payments are made in arrears. The new Universal Credit payment rates for 2024/25 have also been announced. These monthly rates apply to single claimants, joint claimants, child amounts, disabled child additions, limited capability for work, limited capability for work and work-related activity, carer amount, childcare costs amount, work allowances, higher work allowance , and lower work allowance.
