Universal Credit payments expected on December 28 will still be made on this date however
Due to Christmas and New Year falling at a weekend and there being bank holidays to compensate for this, some people who claim benefits could see a change to the date they receive the money. The Department for Work and Pensions has announced when claimants should expect the money to drop into their banks over the festive period.
Christmas Day is only a few days away, but falling on a Sunday means the bank holiday has been moved to December 27. This is because Boxing Day falls on a Monday and is usually a bank holiday too. The same applies when it comes to New Year's Day. The day falls on a Sunday this year, so the substitute New Year bank holiday falls on Monday, January 2.This means anyone who is expecting payments by the DWP on the second of the month will be paid earlier than usual, reports CoventryLive. The government's website explains that anyone who normally receives their benefit on the second day of each month will be paid earlier in January.
Those expecting payments on January 3 will receive them on this date, except in Scotland . Changes have also been made to the dates of the Christmas period. Benefit payments due on December 26 and 27 will instead be paid today . Universal Credit payments expected on December 28 will be made on this date, the DWP says. However, other benefit payments due on the same date will be issued on December 23 instead.
