This year’s Fiesta stats show a marked decline in arrests compared to the last three years, during the return from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fiesta revelers appeared to heed warnings from local law enforcement officials as the number of DWI arrests dropped from years past. There were fewer drinking while intoxicated arrests during Fiesta 2024 compared with the last three years. San Antonio police arrested 114 people on DWI charges from April 18 to 28. Overall, the total is down by 37 from 2023 when police made 151 DWI arrests. In 2022, there was another dip at 129 arrests, compared with 169 people arrested for DWI during Fiesta 2021. It’s worth noting that DWI arrests as a whole are down compared to Fiesta periods in the 2010s. In 2015, 222 people were arrested for DWI during Fiesta. Even that number was half of Fiesta 2014 when the department made a whopping 402 drunken driving arrests.
