MAYNILA - Maaaring magdeklara ng martial law sakaling magpatuloy ang umano’y pag-atake ng mga kasapi ng New People's Army sa pulisya at sundalo sa gitna ng krisis sa coronavirus disease 2019, babala ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong Biyernes.
"Kaya I am now warning everybody and putting notice sa Armed Forces pati Police, I might declare martial law and there will be no turning back. Kung ano ang martial law na klaseng gagawin ko akin lang ‘yan. Pero kung gusto ninyo kasi pinagpapatay ninyo ‘yung mga sundalo ko pati pulis na wala namang ginawa kung hindi samahan lang ‘yung nagde-deliver ng pera pati pagkain," ani Duterte.
Kinondena ito ng ilang opposition figures, na nagsasabing dapat mas bigyang-diin ng gobyerno ang pagsugpo laban sa virus. “This is a classic deflection tactic to draw away the people’s attention from the government’s inept, incompassionate and irresponsible actions in the face of the pandemic,” dagdag nila.
