Dutch carrier KLM to cut 2,000 jobs

Dutch carrier KLM, which merged with Air France in 2004, predicts that flight numbers will drop 20% this month and 30% next month as it suspends flights to China and Italy as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. – AFP pic, March 14, 2020.

DUTCH national airline KLM yesterday said it will cut up to 2,000 jobs as it battles the impact of Covid-19, and announced other cost-cutting measures. Chief executive Pieter Elbers said the company, which has around 33,000 employees, will also ask personnel to work shorter hours, while grounding its fleet of six Boeing 747s from April 1.
