After winning World Series, manager will return but for how long remains unclear
Karen Warren/Staff photographerBaker led Houston to its second World Series title in franchise history and the first of his 25-year managerial career. He won his 2,000th game in May, making him one of 12 managers to ever reach the milestone.
Ten of the 12 are enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Only Baker and Bruce Bochy, the Texas Rangers manager, are not, but only because neither is eligible. The Astros are 230-154 under Baker with two American League West titles. Baker has guided them to three consecutive American League Championship Series and two pennants.
The 73-year-old Baker managed this season on a one-year deal. It's unclear how long Baker's new contract will keep him in Houston. Both Baker and general manager James Click worked this season on expiring contracts.
