The bird is being looked after at a rescue centre in North Yorkshire
A protected bird of prey is said to be "fighting for its life" after being shot out of the sky in County Durham.
It follows the shooting of another red kite in the Scottish Highlands earlier this month, prompting it to be put down.Image source,It was reported to the RSPB and inspectors arrived and took the bird to a vet. "However it's still not out of the woods," said Jack Ashton-Booth, investigations officer at the RSPB.
Durham Police said an investigation was under way and urged anyone who might have been in the area, or had seen anything suspicious, to contact them.
